- Rodney Lamar Page: The Multi-Talented Musician Performing at Wedding Venues in Michigan
Rodney Lamar Page, Photo by Angela's Angles Photography Every once in a while, a new wedding vendor walks through our doors at Celestial Farms in Clio, Michigan and completely changes the way we see things. That’s exactly what happened at Ashley and Cory’s wedding on April 12th, 2025 when Rodney Lamar Page stepped up to the DJ booth—and then completely blew everyone away with his violin performances. We’ve seen some incredible performances here, from full live bands to string ceremony performances and more but Rodney’s was, hands down, one of the most unforgettable experiences we’ve ever had at Celestial Farms , a Wedding Venue in Michigan. Rodney is not your average DJ and that title doesn't do him justice. He’s a violinist. A pianist. A beatboxer. A freestyle rapper. A teacher. A father. A community leader. And somehow, he manages to weave all of those titles into a single, mind-blowing performance that leaves guests ( and the Celestial Farms Team) talking long after the last dance. His musicality doesn’t just fill the room—it completely transforms it. Rodney Lamar Page: The Multi-Talented Musician Performing at Barn Wedding Venues in Michigan and Beyond Rodney Lamar Page, Photo by Angela's Angles Photography From Strings to Sound Waves: Rodney Lamar Page's Musical Mastery When Rodney started playing violin during Ashley and Cory’s barn ceremony, jaws dropped. He has that rare ability to adapt his violin playing to any and every genre of music—elevating everything from classical to hip-hop, pop to country and R&B. There’s something magical about watching him move fluidly from a romantic ballad into a violin remix of a popular wedding/club anthem—and making it all feel cohesive and seamless as he moves around the room. But it didn’t stop there. Just before the last dance, Rodney grabbed the mic, dropped a beat, and free-styled a custom rap for the Ashley and Cory—something completely spontaneous, clever, and heartwarming even for us as he mentioned Clio and Celestial Farms . He even beatboxed what felt like an entire custom song, creating a one-man symphony of sound. Ashley and Cory's crowd went wild and so did we. The dance floor was packed and everyone was amazed- it brought chills. It was pure joy and a one of a kind wedding experience which is exactly what we strive for at Celestial Farms - a Barn Wedding Venue in Michigan. A Life of Purpose: More Than Music Rodney’s talent is undeniable, but what makes him truly special is his huge heart. He’s not just an entertainer—he’s a dedicated father, an educator and mentor, pouring into the next generation with the same passion he brings to the stage and dance floor. Based in Lansing, Rodney works with students in the local school district, volunteering his time and talents to support music education and youth empowerment programs for all ages. He believes in using music to connect, heal, and inspire (he definitely inspired me)—and his life is proof that it works. Balancing his career and creativity with raising his children and staying grounded in family values makes him a truly remarkable man. Viral Sensation & Community Favorite Kylee Wilson Media If you haven’t seen Rodney’s viral TikTok video yet, stop what you’re doing and look him up—this particular video is on the East Lansing Public Schools page-you won’t be disappointed. Check his Facebook videos too. The man is a showstopper. His videos capture the same energy he brought to Ashley and Cory’s wedding : soul, style, and an unmistakable passion for live performances and unforgettable evenings at wedding venues in Michigan like Celestial Farms . He has a strong following on his social media platforms, where he shares clips from his classroom performances, community work, weddings and events and personal reflections. It’s clear his fans don’t just love his music and talents—they love him. And we totally get it. Rodney Lamar Page: A Favorite at Celestial Farms and Barn Wedding Venues in Michigan Rodney Lamar Page, Photo by Angela's Angles Photography A New Favorite at Celestial Farms It’s no surprise that after one unforgettable night with our lovely couple Ashley and Cory, Rodney Lamar Page is now officially on our Preferred Vendor List at Celestial Farms . We love working with creative vendors who bring more than just a service—they bring magic and passion for their art. Rodney made Ashley and Cory’s celebration feel deeply personal and wildly fun, and we can’t wait to see the joy he brings to future couples here at Celestial Farms. If you’re planning your dream wedding and want a DJ experience that goes far beyond the ordinary, look no further. Rodney Lamar Page is an artist, an innovator, and a true professional in all things "DJ". Your guests will leave raving. Your dance floor will never be empty. And your memories? Well, they’ll sound a lot like magic, just check out the Celestial Farms Facebook , and TikTok platforms for some of the moments we captured. Unforgettable Performances with Rodney Lamar Page at Wedding Venues in Michigan We've shared some of our favorite photos from Angela's Angles Photography and candid content videos we captured for Ashley and Cory to show you just how incredible Rodney’s performance was. But even video won’t fully capture the energy in the room. Trust us—it’s something you have to feel in person. - The Three C’s of Marriage: Advice from a Michigan Wedding Venue
Angela's Angles Photography At Celestial Farms , we’ve had the honor of witnessing so many beautiful couples say “I do” and start their journey as a married couple. From heartfelt vows to joyous celebrations, we’ve seen love in all its forms. But as beautiful and magical as weddings are, marriage itself is a lifelong journey—one that requires effort, patience, and understanding. Celestial Farms- A Beautiful Michigan Wedding Venue What makes a marriage last? While every relationship is unique, I've learned that the strongest marriages share three foundational principles: Communication, Compromise, and Commitment . These “Three C’s” serve as the backbone of a healthy and thriving relationship, helping couples navigate life’s ups and downs as a team. But beyond these three core values, we also believe in the power of compassion, quality time, intimacy, and respect. These elements deepen the bond between partners and keep the spark alive for a lasting love. Whether you’re planning your DREAM wedding at a Michigan wedding venue like Celestial Farms or you’re already navigating life as newlyweds, this guide offers essential advice to build a strong and lasting marriage with the person you love. Angela's Angles Photography Communication: The Heart of a Healthy Marriage Communication is the foundation of every successful relationship. Communication is how couples express love, resolve conflicts, and share their hopes and dreams. But unfortunately, many couples struggle with effective communication, and that can ultimately lead to misunderstandings and frustration. Listen to Understand, Not Just to Respond One of the biggest communication mistakes is listening just to reply rather than truly hearing and understanding your partner’s perspective. This is called active listening and it involves: • Making eye contact with your partner • Avoiding interrupting your partner • Paraphrasing what your partner says to ensure clarity • Asking thoughtful questions for a deeper understanding of thoughts and feelings. For couples to approach challenges that arise as a team rather than opponents, both partners need to feel heard. ASV Photography Express Your Needs Clearly Your spouse in not a mind reader regardless of how close you feel to them. If something is bothering you, never expect your partner to guess what’s wrong. Learn to use “I” statements instead of blame-filled language. For example: • Instead of: “You never help around the house.” • Try: “I feel overwhelmed when I handle all the household chores alone. Can we please divide the responsibilities more evenly?” This approach will encourage a positive conversation rather than defensiveness. Keep the Romance Alive with Daily Check-ins Life can get hectic, but small daily check-ins and love filled gestures can strengthen your connection. Ask each other: • What was the best part of your day today? • Is there anything on your mind that you’d like to discuss? • How can I support you better? Even five-minute conversations with your partner can make a world of difference. Kylee Wilson Media Celestial Farms- A Beautiful Michigan Wedding Venue Compromise: Finding Middle Ground in Marriage Marriage is about two people merging their lives together, which means disagreements are inevitably going to happen. What is the key to resolving all conflicts? Compromise. Understanding vs. Winning Couples tend to enter conflicts with the goal of “winning” the argument. But in a healthy marriage, the real victory comes from finding solutions that work for both partners rather than proving who’s right and who's wrong. A simple mindset shift can help: • Instead of: “How can I prove my partner wrong?” • Try: “How can my partner and I solve this problem together?” The 80/20 Rule Not every disagreement needs to be an argument. A good rule of thumb for couples to live by is the 80/20 principle: • Fight for the 20% of issues that matter most (e.g., financial decisions, parenting choices, long-term goals). • Let go of the 80% that aren’t worth the stress or the conflict (e.g., who forgot to take the garbage out). When couples learn to choose their battles wisely, they create a more peaceful home. Balancing Individuality and Togetherness Compromise doesn’t mean sacrificing your individuality. It’s about a healthy balance between personal needs and the needs of the relationship. Support each other’s individual hobbies and interests while also making time for shared experiences that you both enjoy. For example: • If one partner loves any social setting and the other prefers quiet weekends at home, find a middle ground. Plan an occasional social gathering with friends while also enjoying cozy nights in. Commitment: The Glue That Holds Marriage Together Commitment is more than just about staying married—it’s about always choosing each other, even through tough times. Weathering Life’s Storms Together Marriage isn’t always rainbows and butterflies. Career changes, financial struggles, health issues—life throws unexpected challenges to everyone. The key is to face them as a team rather than letting stressful situations drive a wedge between you. At Celestial Farms- a Michigan wedding venue , any chance we get to give our couples a bit of advice we tell them the strongest marriages are those where both partners remain committed to working through life's ups and downs together. Show Up Every Day Commitment isn’t just about big gestures like vacations, gifts and renewing vows—it’s about showing up every day in small ways: • Check in on your partner’s emotional well-being • Supporting your partners dreams and goals • Always be present and engaged in the relationship Love isn’t just a feeling; it’s a choice you make every day. Celestial Farms- A Beautiful Michigan Wedding Venue Beyond the Three C’s: The Secret Ingredients to a Thriving Marriage While Communication, Compromise, and Commitment are the key factors of a successful marriage, there are other key elements that will deepen your bond. Compassion: The Power of Empathy in Marriage Marriage isn’t about keeping score; it’s about lifting your partner up. To show compassion means you are: • Offering support instead of criticism when your partner is struggling • Forgiving instead of holding grudges • Acknowledging your partner's efforts and expressing gratitude To make your partner feel valued, a simple “thank you” goes a long way. Quality Time: Prioritizing Your Relationship Today’s world is fast-paced and it’s easy to get caught up in work, chores, and daily responsibilities. But you can't forget that quality time is essential for keeping your connection alive. A few ideas to keep the romance alive include: • Date nights (even if it’s just watching a movie at home together) • Escape the daily grind-plan a weekend getaway • Plan an evening with no phones or distractions At Celestial Farms, we often remind couples that their wedding day is just the beginning. The real love story is in the everyday moments you'll share for a lifetime. Intimacy: More Than Just Physical Connection Intimacy isn’t just physical—it’s about emotional and mental connection too. This means: • Being vulnerable with your partner • Share your dreams, fears, and aspirations with each other • Continue to flirt and laugh together, just like you did on your first date Respect: The Cornerstone of Any Strong Relationship Without mutual respect, even love isn't enough to sustain a marriage. Respect means: • Valuing your partner's opinions and feelings • Never speak down to or belittle each other • Honor the commitments you’ve made to each other At our Michigan wedding venue, we remind couples that respect is one of the strongest predictors of long-term happiness. A Lifetime of Love Begins Now At Celestial Farms , we don’t just celebrate weddings—we celebrate marriages. Your wedding day is a beautiful moment, but the real adventure begins in the life you build together in the years to come. By prioritizing these factors: Communication, Compromise, and Commitment, along with Compassion, Quality Time, Intimacy, and Respect, you’ll create an everlasting marriage that thrives. Whether you’re planning your dream wedding at a Michigan wedding venue like Celestial Farms or looking for ways to strengthen the relationship with your partner, remember: Love isn’t just finding the right person—it’s being the right partner. - Behind the Brand: What I Learned From This Branding Shoot Turned Boudoir | At Barn Wedding Venues Near Me
"So, I did a thing.. my branding shoot took an unexpected turn- what this boudoir/laundromat scene taught me about business, confidence and showing up authentically." - Jennifer Wilson Owner, Celestial Farms Wedding Venue Why Boudoir? Let's talk about the boudoir shoot. This part of my branding shoot wasn’t about marketing—it was about me. And I would've never went out of my way to do this type of thing without the encouragement from my friend Angie with Angela's Angles Photography who has captured so many tasteful, sexy and wild boudoir sessions from both our shared clients and her own. As a mom, a wife, and a very busy business owner, I tend to put myself last. Over the past few years I poured myself into Celestial Farms, into making it one of the most welcoming barn wedding venues near me. I've hosted many styled shoots, open houses, photoshoots for engaged couples, and of course our bride and groom photo sessions. So setting up my own photoshoot feels a little unnecessary. But with my third magazine interview coming up, I needed a fresh look. And this branding shoot turned boudoir really spiced things up for me, renewing my passion for creating unique, fun, memorable experiences here at Celestial Farms. Barn Wedding Venues Near Me With Heart- Celestial Farms It reminded me that confidence is powerful. That the woman who built a wedding empire out of a horse barn in Clio, Michigan deserves to feel beautiful, bold, and unshakable. With this upcoming magazine touching on the issue of self confidence- it just felt like a perfect time for this sort of thing. This isn’t just about lingerie and pretty photos—it’s about self-worth and self-confidence as a female in her 40's. When I stand tall as the face behind this wedding venue, it helps my clients trust that they’re in good hands to see a confident woman. I’m confident because I’ve done the work—on the land, in my business, and inside myself. I'm proud but humble, shy but bold, and this was such a fun experience that every woman needs to experience. Brand Storytelling When couples book with Celestial Farms Wedding Venue, they’re not just renting a venue—they’re choosing a place filled with heart that delivers a once-in-a-lifetime wedding experience. They’re choosing a dedicated "dream team" that shows up early, stays late, and is full of love. That dream team includes Yolanda with Celestial Farms, Kylee Wilson-candid content creator , Angie with Angela's Angles Photography, Christa with Hair Creations by Christa McGrath , DJ Fury with Savoy Entertainment , Justin Forella with Forella Events and of course me, Jennifer Wilson- Owner of Celestial Farms. We all play equally crucial roles on wedding day. And every piece of the puzzle has to come together to create your perfect day. They’re also choosing someone who’s lived the chaos of motherhood, the nerves of launching something new, and the courage to show up fully and authentically even when filled with self doubt. If you’ve been searching for barn wedding venues near me and want something that feels personal, grounded, and fully and uniquely you, I invite you to experience Celestial Farms. We don’t just host weddings—we celebrate love stories, and create memories that will be cherished for lifetimes. The Laundromat Why? Because laundry has been a part of my business from day one. In fact, linens were the topic of my very first blog, when I knew nothing about blogging. Our linen services are top notch. We take pride in our linen presentation and I personally spend a lot of time at the laundromat on the mornings after wedding day. The laundromat shoot represents the behind-the-scenes work people don't see. Fresh white linens, crisp details, and a wedding table-scape that looks like a dream because someone, somewhere (hi, it's me) , was elbow deep in prep work and fighting stains. It's tedious, time consuming, and a pain in the butt, but my clients love our white, perfectly steamed, commercial grade floor length linens. This Clio Laundromat shoot? It's a symbol of the rinse-repeat, the resilience and the rhythm of service. This is where luxury starts-where care is poured into every detail. Where hard work and dedication turns into something beautiful. The Story, the Heart The laundromat shoot? It’s the soul of service. The boudoir session? It’s the heart of confidence. The branding shoot? It’s the bridge that connects my story to yours. So the next time you’re searching for barn wedding venues near me, remember—it’s okay to look beyond pretty photos and backdrops. Look for meaning. Look for connection. Look for a story you want to be part of, a story that makes you proud. And if that story leads you to a modern barn wedding venue in Clio, Michigan—welcome. You’ve found it at Celestial Farms. Celestial Farms Wedding Venue- A Top Choice for Barn Wedding Venues Near Me Thanks so much for stopping by our blog! We hope you found this information helpful. It was one of those perfect Michigan days — a little sunshine, a little sprinkle of rain for good luck, and a whole lot of love and good vibes. The energy was high, the smiles were contagious, and the love between these Mercedes and Matthew was nothing short of electric. Their wedding was the perfect combination of romantic, steamy, and full of joy — the kind of day that ignites our passion here at Celestial Farms. Kylee Wilson Media- Michigan Content Creator The Newlyweds: Mercedes & Matthew Matthew and his groomsmen turned heads from the moment they arrived at Celestial Farms. Dressed sharp in all-black with cowboy hats and boots, they looked like they had stepped straight out of a country music video — but what made them stand out even more was their genuine good character. There was something about the way she carried herself — so full of warmth, excitement, and grace. She was glowing all day long, and her heartfelt thank-you card is something I’ll cherish forever. Mercedes- you are truly something special and Matthew is a lucky man! The Wedding Ceremony & That Michigan “Good Luck” Rain If you’ve been around weddings as long as we have, you know that a little rain never ruins a wedding day — in fact, overcast is the best for photography and rain is said to bring good luck. For this one, it came during the father of the bride’s speech. You could see the love and pride he had for his daughter. You could hear the emotion in his voice, and by the time he reached the end of his heartfelt speech, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. But then — in the most unforgettable twist — he reached into his pocket and pulled out a huge foam key! He turned to Matthew, smiled, and said, “Here’s the key to my Mercedes.” The crowd went wild with laughter and cheers. It was one of those moments that perfectly summed up the magical day — heartfelt, funny, and full of love. The Most Epic Father-Daughter Dance Speaking of unforgettable — Mercedes and her father didn’t just dance, they performed.  It was hands down the most choreographed high energy father-daughter dance we’ve ever seen here at Celestial Farms wedding venue. From slow, emotional spins to high-energy moves that got the whole crowd cheering, their performance was one for the Celestial Farms books. You could tell they’d spent hours practicing, (we loved seeing them rehearse in the bridal suite that morning) but what made it special was how much fun they were having out there. Seeing the connection between father and daughter was beautiful — equal parts sentimental and entertaining. The love between Mercedes and Matthew was magnetic — the kind of love story that lights up the entire room. Every time they looked at each other, you could see the spark. Their chemistry was undeniable, and the joy they shared spread to everyone around them including us. Even as the night went on, they took the time to soak it all in — pausing for a few private moments under the stars, holding hands, smiling, and just being together.  Mercedes and Matthew, congratulations and wishing you the very best in every aspect of your lives together! - Top 10 Wedding Budgeting Tips at Affordable Wedding Venues Near Me
Wedding day.. It's the most magical, emotional, unforgettable— and the most expensive if you’re not careful with planning and budgeting. Whether you’re a newly engaged couple or knee-deep in 2026 or 2027 wedding planning, one of the most common searches we see from engaged couples is “affordable wedding venues near me.”  And trust me, that Google search doesn’t mean you’re settling for less—it means you’re smart, intentional, and focused on what matters most: starting your marriage on the right foot, without a mountain of debt. At Celestial Farms wedding venue at 3116 E. Vienna Rd. Clio, Michigan 48420, we’ve seen hundreds of couples find creative ways to plan stunning weddings without breaking the bank. It’s not about how much your budget is—it’s about budgeting wisely. So, let’s take a look at the top ten realistic wedding budgeting tips  that will help you plan your dream wedding day at affordable wedding venues like Celestial Farms without unnecessary financial stress. Affordable Wedding Venues Near Me 1. Have the Conversation Before you book anything, sit down with your partner—and if applicable, anyone helping fund your day—and have the “money talk.” It might feel a tad uncomfortable, but being honest about your wedding budget up front saves so much heartache later. Topics to discuss: Who’s contributing and how much What are your non-negotiables How much you can realistically spend without borrowing and acquiring debt You’d be surprised by how many engaged couples skip this step and end up spending thousands more than they planned or can afford because they never defined their limits together. Think of this as your first major marital decision —because good communication -sets you up for success later. 2. Make a Budget (and Stick to It) This may seem obvious to some, but it’s where most couples go off track. A budget isn’t just a number—it’s a plan for your future. Start by defining the spending limit you're comfortable with, then divide it into the main categories: venue, catering, photography, attire, decor, entertainment, etc. If you’re not sure how to allocate, here’s a general breakdown that works for most couples: Venue & rentals:  35–40% Catering & bar:  25–30% Photography & video:  10–15% Entertainment (DJ/band):  8–10% Florals & decor:  8–10% Miscellaneous (favors, beauty, transportation, etc.):  5–10% Once you’ve set your budget and made your plan— stick to it.  Track expenses in a spreadsheet or even a budgeting app, and don’t let “just one little upgrade” snowball into completely blowing the budget. The secret to staying within budget isn’t magic—it’s discipline. And it's a major test for new couples. Affordable Wedding Venues Near Me 3. Don’t Borrow or Use Credit Cards PLEASE—don’t start your marriage with overwhelming debt. I know it’s tempting to swipe a card and tell yourself you’ll figure it out later, but that financial hangover lasts a lot longer than your wedding day. Even as a wedding venue owner I’m not ashamed to say: I got married at a township park , and I wouldn’t change a single thing. It wasn’t extravagant, but it was heartfelt, personal, and it was ours. Nobody should go into debt to have a beautiful wedding—you just need to focus on what’s truly important. Start your marriage on solid financial footing, not with lingering credit card bills and debt. The best wedding gift you can give yourselves is the peace of mind that you won't start this journey with overwhelming debt. 4. Guest Count (It Affects Everything ) Guest count—it’s a multiplier ! Every single extra guest means another chair, plate, meal, drink, centerpiece, linen, and invitation. That’s the single biggest ways to control your costs. Think about it: Venue cost:  Often based on guest count or package tiers Catering:  Always charged per person Bar:  Every extra guest means more alcohol Decor & rentals:  More tables, linens, decor and place settings If you’re trying to plan an affordable wedding or find affordable wedding venues near me, remember this— it’s not always about finding a cheaper wedding venue!  It’s about reducing what you need to supply in the space. A smaller guest list means a bigger budget per person for quality vendors, better food, and more personalized touches that wouldn't be possible if you had a huge guest count. 5. Catering Choices: Where the Range Gets Wide Food and drink tend to be the second largest expense on wedding day (after the venue). But it’s also one of the easiest places to adjust your budget without sacrificing quality. Here are a few ways to save: Buffet vs. plated:  Buffets are typically more affordable, though family-style can also strike a nice balance. Plastic vs. real:  Renting real plates, silverware, and glassware sometimes adds hundreds in cost. High-end disposable options can still look elegant and save a ton of money. Simplify the menu:  You don’t need a five-course meal to have a great dining experience. One or two entrée options and a couple of sides are plenty. Affordable Wedding Venues Near Me 6. Research Your Wedding Venue (And Know What’s Included) Not all wedding venues are created equal—and that’s where research really matters. Sometimes, what looks like an affordable wedding venue near me  at first actually costs more in the long run because of what it doesn’t  include or hidden costs. Here’s what to look for: Is there a day-of coordinator  or are you on your own? HUGE perk at Celestial Farms Are tables, chairs, and linens  included? ALWAYS at Celestial Farms Is there setup and cleanup staff , or do you have to hire help? Our staff maintains the facilities throughout the entire event Is there a Plan B  for rain? We always have plan A, B and C. At Celestial Farms wedding venue , we include a full staff, a day-of coordinator, and built-in backup plans for weather including an enclosed pavilion—because peace of mind matters. If your venue offers none of these options, you’ll need to budget for outside help, which adds up fast. A good rule of thumb: if your wedding venue is 80% of your total budget, you’re probably going over budget. Look for a venue that’s beautiful and functional, without requiring you to bring in everything  yourself. 7. Consider Other Days or Seasons Want to save thousands of dollars without changing a single thing about your dream wedding? Get creative with your wedding date . At Celestial Farms , Saturdays in peak season are always the most expensive. But Fridays, Sundays, and even Thursdays often come with discounts—and honestly, your guests won’t mind one bit-in fact they probably enjoy having their Saturday open. Also consider off-peak months like April, November, or January . The Michigan weather might be cooler, but the atmosphere is just as romantic. Another perk- vendors are often more available and flexible with pricing. Venues like Celestial Farms are stunning in every season, from snowy winter wonderlands to golden autumn sunsets. 8. Prioritize Quality Vendors Over Decor (and Skip the Guest Gifts) If your budget is tight, here’s some real talk: no one is going to remember your table favors and guest gifts- but they will  remember how your DJ kept the dance floor packed or how your photographer captured the emotion of the day. Good vendors make or break a wedding. Put your money toward passionate professionals who will elevate your wedding experience—like talented photographers, DJs with impeccable emcee skills, and wedding coordinators (included in every Celestial Farms wedding package)—and scale back on decor and unnecessary extras. Guest gifts? Skip them altogether! That $300 could buy an extra hour of photography to get that perfect sparkler exit shot or extra lighting from your DJ, which makes a huge impact. And remember, if you choose a wedding venue with character and ambiance like Celestial Farms in Clio, Michigan, you don’t need to over-decorate—it’s beautiful all on its own and that's a consistent comment we hear from our couples. 9. Guest Count (Yes, Again!) Yes, it’s on the list twice—because it’s that important. Every dollar you spend multiplies with a higher guest count. That’s why smaller weddings are often more luxurious on the same exact budget. At Celestial Farms wedding venue we give each couple a personalized quote after their tour, and the number of guests affects everything: linens, staffing, bar glassware, and setup time. Fewer guests means fewer expenses across the board. A 75-person wedding can feel just as special (if not more) than a 200-person wedding—because you can actually spend time with every guest and focus on creating memories instead of just hosting a crowd. 10. DIY vs. Renting (and Buying Used) We all love a good DIY project—but it doesn’t always save. When you factor in time, supplies, and stress, sometimes it’s more cost-effective to rent  certain items of decor or reuse items your wedding venue already has. Don't hesitate to ask your wedding venue if they have complimentary decor you can borrow—we do! From arches and easels to vases and swags, using what’s already on site will save you hundreds. And if you do  DIY, choose wisely: Do it:  Table numbers, signage, small decor pieces Don’t do it:  Large florals, lighting, or rentals (they’re more complicated and stressful than they look- I promise) Also— buy used!  Wedding resale groups on Facebook, marketplace, local bridal consignment shops, and even thrift stores can be goldmines. You can also save big by: Buying a pre-loved wedding dress  instead of a brand new dress to wear one day in your entire life (and maybe getting a higher-end designer within your budget!) Renting or buying a used tux , depending on alterations needed Using a home baker  for your personal (sweetheart) cake and grabbing bulk desserts from a local grocery store or bakery You’ll save money and support local businesses in the process. Bonus: Remember What the Day Is About At the end of the day, your wedding isn’t about the charger plates, the flowers, or the favors—it’s about love, commitment, and the people who show up to celebrate your love story with you. You can have an incredible wedding day—filled with laughter, good food, and dancing under the stars—at a venue thats within your budget. We see it happen every single weekend. If you focus on what truly matters- which is marrying your best friend- and spend intentionally, your wedding day will be perfect for you —and that’s all that counts. Planning Your Own Affordable Wedding Venue Experience If you’re searching for affordable wedding venues near me , start by visiting a few local venues that align with your style and price point. Ask all the questions. Get clear on what’s included and whats not. And remember—affordable doesn’t mean basic. It means you’re being smart with your resources-a skill you'll need in your marriage. At Celestial Farms wedding venue , we specialize in stress-free, budget-conscious weddings that don’t compromise on beauty or experience. Our passionate team of professionals provides timeline planning and day of coordination services, and a full staff—so you can relax and focus on what really matters. Because the best wedding isn’t the one that costs the most it's the one that feels most like you. Final Thoughts When you take the time to talk through your finances with your partner, set a realistic plan, and make mindful decisions. Your wedding can be both beautiful and affordable. - The Five Pillars of a Strong Marriage: Advice from a Detroit Wedding Venue
Advice from the owner of a Detroit wedding venue At Celestial Farms, our Michigan wedding venue at 3116 E. Vienna Rd. in Clio, Michigan 48420  has witnessed hundreds of couples walk down the aisle — each with their own love story, their own challenges, and their own incredible commitment to each other. While every relationship and every marriage is beautifully unique, the strongest marriages we’ve seen all seem to share the same foundation: five powerful pillars that support them through every season of life and each challenge they face. Whether you're planning your wedding, newly engaged, or years into your relationship, these pillars can serve as a guide for building a love story that lasts. Photography by Angela's Angles Photography, LLC. 1. Communication — Speaking & Listening With Intention Strong, healthy marriages don’t just “happen.” They are built through intentional communication — communication that goes beyond small talk and dives into dreams, fears, needs, and everything in between. We’ve seen couples at our Detroit wedding venue carve out time in their wedding planning to practice healthy communication: Setting aside weekly check-ins Asking each other open-ended questions Learning each other’s communication style Listening with the intent to understand, not to respond The goal isn’t perfection — it’s connection. 2. Compassion — Choosing Kindness Every Day In a healthy marriage you'll love each other on good days, hard days, and everything in between. Compassion looks like: Giving your partner grace Owning mistakes Saying “I’m sorry” quickly Leaning in instead of pulling back As a Michigan wedding venue , we see so many couples at Celestial Farms get emotional during their vows because they already understand this pillar. It’s not about being perfect — it’s about choosing kindness even in the most challenging situations. 3. Commitment — The Promise You Keep Daily Your wedding day is just a moment. Marriage is a daily decision. The strongest couples we’ve seen at Celestial Farms make their marriage a priority no matter how busy life becomes. This pillar shows up in real life through: Prioritizing quality time Making big decisions together Supporting each other’s goals Staying rooted in the “why” of their relationship Commitment isn’t staying because you have to — it’s staying because you want to. 4. Collaboration — Being a Team, Not Opponents Life will hand every couple obstacles that can't be avoided. The difference between couples who grow and couples who drift apart often comes down to teamwork. Teamwork means: Dividing responsibilities fairly Celebrating each other’s strengths Tackling challenges together Making decisions as partners Bride vs. Groom? No.It’s the two of you as a team vs. the challenge  — every time. At our Detroit wedding venue , we see this pillar shine brightest during wedding planning. Couples who collaborate on decisions, not compete, always walk into marriage stronger ensuring a healthy long-lasting relationship. 5. Connection — Continually Choosing Each Other Connection: The fuel that keeps a great marriage alive. This pillar is often built through: Physical affection Emotional intimacy Shared hobbies or rituals Meaningful conversations Date nights — even when life is busy The strongest couples we’ve met at Celestial Farms wedding venue stay curious about each other, even decades later. They flirt, laugh, and make space for joy… just like they did when they first fell in love. Qualities of a strong marriage The Five Pillars — Communication, Compassion, Commitment, Collaboration, and Connection They don’t eliminate inevitable challenges. But they do  give married couples the tools to face life hand-in-hand. After hosting so many weddings at our Michigan wedding venue , I can tell you one thing for sure: The newly married couples who invest in these pillars early create marriages that feel safe, joyful, passionate, and unshakeable. Whether you're in the wedding planning stages or strengthening the marriage you already have, these five pillars can help you build a life that’s not just beautiful… but truly lasting. - Shopping for Engagement Rings? Here's what you need to know | Top Ten Tips
Angela's Angles Photography When you're planning to propose to the love of your life, shopping for engagement rings is the first exciting but sometimes overwhelming steps in the marriage proposal journey. Whether you’re planning a surprise wedding proposal or shopping for engagement rings together, knowing what to look for before you step into a jewelry store can save time, money, and a ton of stress. If you’re also starting to think about which wedding venues near me are right for you, Detroit wedding venues, Michigan wedding venues , or barn wedding venues, this is often the moment when everything starts to feel real as a newly engaged couple. Let’s break down what you need to know before saying “yes” to the engagement ring. Angela's Angles Photography 1. Set a Budget First (and Stick to It) Before looking at engagement rings, decide what you’re comfortable spending. Ignore outdated “rules” about how much you should  be spending. Starting a marriage off right includes not going into debt. The right wedding ring is one that fits your budget and your future plans together—especially if you’re also budgeting for a wedding venue , vendors, and of course your dream wedding reception. 💡 Tip: Leave room in your total ring budget for resizing, insurance, or a future wedding band. Kylee Wilson Media Photography 2. Learn Their Style (Classic, Modern, or Unique) Pay attention to the jewelry your partner already wears: Do they prefer gold or silver ? Minimal and timeless or bold and unique? Vintage-inspired or modern and sleek? If they love rustic yet elegant details and the dream of a modern barn wedding venue like Celestial Farms is desired, your future fiancee may lean toward a more organic or vintage-style wedding ring. Angela's Angles Photography 3. Choose the Right Metal Popular engagement ring metals include: Yellow Gold  – classic and warm White Gold  – modern and bright Rose Gold  – romantic and trendy Platinum  – durable and premium Metal choice affects both the look and longevity of the engagement and wedding rings. Do your research before making the ultimate decision. Angela's Angles Photography 4. Understand the Diamond (or Gemstone) Basics If choosing a diamond, learn the 4 C's of Diamonds: Cut Color Clarity Carat Alternative gemstones like sapphires, emeralds, or black onyx are also popular—especially for couples who want something unique and one-of-a-kind. Angela's Angles Photography 5. Pick a Setting That Matches Their Lifestyle Some ring settings sit higher and sparkle more, while others are lower and a bit more practical. If your partner is really active or works with their hands every day, a lower-profile setting may be the smartest choice. Common settings include: Solitaire Halo Three-stone Bezel Vintage-inspired Emily Ann Photography 6. Know Their Ring Size (or Get Close) If it’s a surprise proposal, borrow a ring they already have in their jewelry box or ask a trusted friend or family member. Many jewelers offer free resizing when you purchase engagement rings, so don’t panic if it’s not perfect. Angela's Angles Photography 7. Think About Long-Term Wear Your wedding ring will be worn every day. Consider: Comfort Durability How it will pair with a wedding band later This is especially important as you move from proposal planning into wedding venue shopping and wedding planning. Kylee Wilson Media Photography 8. Shop Around (Online and In-Store) Try not to buy the first ring you see. Compare: Prices Warranties Return policies Custom design options Local jewelers usually provide a more personalized experience and can help you design something meaningful or one-of-a-kind so careful research is important. Angela's Angles Photography 9. Ask About Certification and Insurance for your wedding rings For diamonds, always ask for certification (such as GIA). Once purchased, insure your engagement rings and wedding bands to protect your investment. 10. Make the Moment Meaningful The ring is important—but the proposal is everything. Whether it’s an intimate moment at home, a romantic getaway near me, or a date night at your favorite restaurant, it’s the story behind the ring that lasts forever.
