- Planning the Perfect Micro Wedding: An Intimate Celebration of Love at your Detroit Wedding Venue
Micro weddings have surged in popularity, offering couples the opportunity to celebrate their union at their favorite Detroit Wedding Venue in a stress-free way. While they may be smaller in scale, micro weddings are no less magical than a wedding for 150+ guests. And there are endless opportunities for personalization and intimacy. Whether you’re drawn to the idea of a minimalist and simple celebration or looking to create a luxe event on a smaller scale, here’s your ultimate guide to finding the perfect Detroit Wedding Venue and planning the perfect micro wedding. What is a Micro Wedding? A micro wedding typically includes a guest list of 50 or less people. This allows you to focus on quality over quantity, allows couples to spend more time with each guest, and allocate their budget to create a highly personalized experience. If you want to heavily reduce the stress associated with large-scale wedding planning, a micro-wedding might be perfect for you! At Celestial Farms in Clio, Michigan , we’ve seen firsthand how micro weddings bring a unique charm to the overall wedding experience for our couples. It allows couples to focus on what truly matters: love, connection, and cherished moments. 1. Start with Your Vision Define What Matters Most Before diving into logistics, sit down with your partner and discuss your top priorities and wishes for your micro wedding. Is it a luxurious dining experience, a cozy ceremony under the stars, or dancing the night away with your closest friends and family? A clear vision will help guide every decision that needs to be made to create your dream wedding experience. Inspiration for Micro Weddings Micro weddings open the door to creative ideas: • Theme : Rustic chic, Vintage glamour, Modern minimalist, or fairy tale vibes. • Venues : Consider boutique hotels , gardens, or a diverse venue like Celestial Farms , which offers both charm and functionality. • Activities : Add personal touches like wine tastings , specialty food trucks , or even an artist to sketch pictures of you and your guests which is a great activity for a smaller wedding where the artist has plenty of time to allocate towards each drawing. 2. Crafting Your Guest List With a smaller guest count, you can be extremely intentional about who to invite. Focus on immediate family, your closest friends, and those who’ve played an important role in your life. Tips for Managing the Guest List • Limit plus-ones unless absolutely necessary. • Set boundaries kindly but firmly-this is a must! • Emphasize the intimacy of the event when explaining the limited capacity to avoid conflict. 3. Finding the Perfect Venue Micro weddings give you access to unique wedding venues that might not accommodate larger groups. Celestial Farms , for instance, shines for its versatility and intimate atmosphere. Our modern barn and outdoor spaces are ideal for gatherings that feel both cozy and elegant and always feel full wether you have 50 or 150 guests. Key Considerations: • Does the venue offer inclusive packages for smaller weddings? Celestial Farms will line you up with the best vendors in the industry according to your budget, style and preferences. • Is there flexibility for personalized touches? We always encourage our couples to let their personalties come out at their wedding. • What amenities (e.g., photo locations, catering options) are available? 4. Personalize Your Ceremony With fewer guests, you can create a deeply meaningful and unique ceremony. This is your chance to: • Write your own vows for a personal touch. • Incorporate unique rituals like handfasting, tree planting, butterfly release or a family unity ceremony. • Add live music which can't be beat, or a close friend’s heartfelt reading. 5. Elevate the Dining Experience One of the biggest advantages of a small size wedding is the ability to splurge on exceptional food and handcrafted cocktails. Work with your caterer to design a personalized top notch menu that reflects you and your partners style. Ideas for an Intimate Dining Experience • Interactive Food Stations : From build-your-own charcuterie boards to live pasta stations- this is a fun experience for everyone. • Signature Cocktails : Collaborate with your bartender, like Casey from Cheers to You Bartending , to design delicious drinks named after milestones in your relationship. • Plated Service: With a small guest list a plated service makes sense. 6. Designing the Décor A micro wedding allows for more attention to detail when it comes to decor. With fewer tables to style, you can enhance each with layered linens, lush florals, custom place settings, and shiny glassware with our bar glass package for an elevated bar experience. Décor Tips for Small Weddings: • Use statement pieces, such as a floral arch or hanging installations like this beautiful piece from Bovan Floral Group. • Incorporate personal mementos, like photos or family heirlooms on display. • Make use of Celestial Farms’ diverse spaces and consider a late night activity under our pavilion with the twinkling lights shining bright and the fire pit blazing. 7. Photography and Videography Capturing the essence of your day is essential, especially for a micro wedding where every moment of the day is intentional. A talented photographer like Angie from Angela’s Angles Photography can preserve those intimate memories beautifully, and will have more time to allocate to each activity with less guests to photograph. Talented Videographers such as With This Ring Film will capture memories that last a lifetime. Ideas for Photo Moments: • A private first look in our wooded trail. • A Celestial Farms Specialty: the sparkler send-off with your closest family and friends. • Photos on our tree swings. 8. Curating Entertainment Entertainment for a micro wedding can be both creative and personal. Whether you opt for a string quartet, a local acoustic artist, or a curated playlist from the best DJ's in Michigan, the key is to enhance the cozy ambiance. 9. Embrace the Intimacy Micro weddings give you the opportunity to be present with every one of your guests. Build moments into your timeline to connect with loved ones. For example: • Host a post-dinner toast, where each guest shares a memory or a well wish for the couple. • Include interactive elements, like a shared activities or group photos. 10. Budgeting for a Micro Wedding Smaller guest counts don’t always mean smaller budgets, but they do allow you to allocate funds more intentionally for the areas that mean the most to you. Splurge on the areas that matter the most to you, whether that’s gourmet catering, luxurious floral arrangements, or a honeymoon to your dream destination. 11. Make it Unforgettable with Unique Touches Custom Welcome Gifts Offer guests a welcome box with Michigan-made treats, customized treats, a mini bottle of bubbly, or a handwritten note. Personalized Favors Opt for meaningful keepsakes, like hand made candles or locally sourced honey jars. Incorporate Your Story Highlight your love story with subtle details, like naming tables after your favorite adventures or destinations you hope to visit one day or sharing a photo timeline. 12. - How to be a good wedding guest at Celestial Farms: A Michigan wedding venue.
How to be a good wedding guest at our Michigan wedding venue This is a guide on how to be a good wedding guest at Celestial Farms, a Michigan wedding venue. As a guest, being invited to share in this once in a lifetime wedding day is an honor. However, the role of a wedding guest comes with responsibilities that should be carefully considered. A bad wedding guest can unintentionally (or sometimes intentionally) disrupt the day, stress out the bride and groom, and leave a negative impression overall. To ensure you contribute to the happiness and success of the joyous event, here is a comprehensive guide on how to avoid being a bad wedding guest and, instead, become the perfect wedding attendee for your friends and loved ones. 1. RSVP Responsibly and on Time The first step in being a perfect wedding guest begins long before the actual wedding day. When you receive the invitation, carefully read it to understand who is invited, such as kids or just adults, and any special instructions regarding the RSVP. Responding on time is crucial. Weddings require extensive planning, and the couple needs to provide accurate head counts to caterers, venues, and many other vendors. If you miss the RSVP deadline, you put unnecessary stress on the couple, who may need to chase down your response which I personally see with almost every large wedding at Celestial Farms . Tip: If you know you can’t attend, kindly decline as soon as possible. If you’re attending, confirm immediately. Don’t assume the couple will automatically know your plans, even if you are a close family member or friend. 2. Respect the Invitation’s Guidelines One of the most common mistakes wedding guests make is misunderstanding or just flat out ignoring the specifics of the invitation. Pay close attention to details such as dress code, whether children are invited, and plus-one policies. If the invitation says “no kids,” don’t bring your kids, even if you think they’re the exception, no matter how close you are to the couple. Similarly, don’t assume you can bring a date if a plus-one wasn’t explicitly offered because that can throw off the final head count and guests may be left without a place to sit leaving them feeling uncomfortable. Tip: If you’re unsure about any part of the invitation, ask the couple or someone close to them for clarification, but always respect their wishes. 3. Dress Appropriately Understanding the wedding dress code is crucial to being a good respectful guest. Showing up underdressed or overdressed can make you look and feel out of place and may even offend the couple. Black-tie, formal, semi-formal, casual—these details matter. Avoid wearing white, as its traditionally reserved for the bride, and steer clear of anything too revealing or flashy -(full sequin dress) that might steal attention from the couple, no prom dresses allowed! Tip: If the invitation doesn’t specify a dress code, use context clues like the type of venue, indoor or outdoor facilities, and time of day to guide your choice. It’s always better to err on the side of being slightly overdressed than too casual, just don't go overboard. Visiting Celestial Farms? Give us a call and we'd be glad to help! 4. Be On Time Timing is everything on a wedding day. Arriving late to the ceremony can be disruptive and disrespectful. You may end up walking in during the bride’s entrance or another significant moment. At Celestial Farms we will stop all traffic pulling in and park them in an area that avoids disruption of the ceremony. If we can casually seat them without making a big deal we will. If not we will direct them to a viewing space that doesn't disrupt anything. Aim to arrive at least 15-30 minutes before the ceremony starts to assure time for parking and finding your seat. Tip: If you happen to arrive late despite your best efforts, because things do happen, wait until an appropriate break in the ceremony to quietly enter and find a seat in the back. 5. Respect the Ceremony The ceremony is the heart of every wedding day, and it should be treated with special care and love. Avoid unnecessary talking, fidgeting, or especially using your phone during this time. Sometimes couples request an unplugged ceremony. You should always refrain from taking photos or videos. Even if you’re allowed to take pictures, be discreet, and never obstruct the professional photographer as this is the number one problem for photographers at the wedding ceremony. Tip: Silence your phone before the ceremony begins, and resist the urge to check it. Your full attention should be on the ceremony during this meaningful moment, it will only last 15-30 minutes at most. 6. Follow Seating Arrangements If the bride and groom has gone to the trouble of creating a seating chart such as this beautiful one pictured above by Angela's Angles Photography , it’s for a reason. Don’t swap seats or tables just because you’d prefer to sit next to certain people. The couple has likely put thought into who will be seated together, this is the way they'd like it, and changing things up can disrupt the flow of the event, causing unnecessary stress for others. Tip: If you’re truly uncomfortable with your assigned seat, speak discreetly with a member of the wedding party or staff to see if any accommodations can be made, but avoid making a scene and make sure the bride and groom aren't bothered by this request, which is the most important part to abide by. 7. Mingle and Be Social Weddings are a time for celebration and connection with friends and family. While you may feel most comfortable sticking with people you know, make an effort to mingle with other guests and maybe make a new friend or two. Introduce yourself to those seated at your table and engage in polite conversation and small talk. Being a wallflower can sometimes come across as disinterest, and you don't want to make the bride and groom who have spent countless hours planning this special day, feel you aren't enjoying yourself. Remember, you’re there to celebrate the couple and it's one of the most important days of their lives so try to have a good time! Tip: If you’re shy, try asking how other guests know the couple, or sharing stories about the them. This can help break the ice and make you both feel more comfortable. 8. Be Mindful of the Couple’s Wishes Every couple has a unique vision for their wedding day, and at Celestial Farms - a Michigan wedding venue, we celebrate individualism. Some prefer a formal affair, while others want a laid-back and relaxed celebration. Respect their choices, even if they don’t align with your personal preferences for a wedding celebration. If the couple asks for a tech-free ceremony, follow their request no matter what. If they’ve arranged for a specific order of events, don’t try to alter it or rush things along or entering spaces that aren't ready yet. Stick with the crowd. Tip: The best way to support the couple is to go with the flow and embrace their vision for the day. Your flexibility and positivity will make the experience more enjoyable for everyone. 9. Watch Your Alcohol Consumption Weddings often include celebratory drinks, and it can be easy to get caught up in the festivities and have a few too many. However, overindulging can lead to embarrassing behavior and even create problems for the couple and the venue. Keep your alcohol consumption in check, and PLEASE know your limits. The last thing you want is to be remembered as the guest who embarrassed the bride and groom on their special day. Tip: Pace yourself with non-alcoholic beverages, drink some water and eat some food, and avoid peer pressure if others are encouraging you to drink more than you’re comfortable with. 10. Don’t Hog the Couple’s Time It’s natural to want to congratulate the bride and groom on their union and spend time with them, but remember that they have many guests to greet in a short period of time. Keep your conversations brief, and be mindful that others are also waiting to congratulate and visit with them as well. Tip: If you have something important to share with the couple, consider writing it in a card or saving it for a more private moment after the big day. 11. Be Respectful of Traditions and Cultural Customs Weddings often incorporate traditions or cultural customs that may be unfamiliar to you and your family. Whether it’s a religious practice, a cultural dance, or a specific way of doing things, be respectful and open-minded for the sake of your bride and groom and their families wishes. Avoid making negative comments or showing disinterest in the choices they've made, even if the traditions differ from your own experiences or ways of life. Tip: If you’re unsure about a particular custom, observe others and follow their lead. This will help you participate appropriately without feeling out of place. 12. Participate in the Festivities While you don’t need to be the life of the party, actively participating in the wedding festivities is a way to show your love and support for the couple. Whether it’s dancing, joining in on games they prepared, or partaking in group photos, your involvement contributes to the joyous atmosphere. Don’t be the guest who sits out on absolutely everything. Many guests who don't want to dance at Celestial farms will enjoy lounging around the fire pit on the patio, which is a popular activity here. Tip: Even if you’re not a dancer or feel shy about participating, at least try to join in for a few moments. Your enthusiasm will be noticed and appreciated. 13. Don’t Overstay Your Welcome Weddings can be long events, but they eventually come to an end-as all good things do! When the couple signals that it’s time to wind down, respect their wishes and start making your way out as soon as you feel safe to do so. Lingering too long after the event has officially ended can be inconvenient for the couple and especially the venue staff. But we always want our guests here at Celestial Farms to be sober before they get behind the wheel so we will make exceptions if necessary. Tip: If you want to offer extra congratulations or spend more time with the couple, consider arranging a meetup after the wedding instead of extending your stay at the wedding venue. Sometimes an after party is a great way to end the night! 14. Be Considerate When Posting on Social Media In today’s digital age, it’s tempting to share every moment of our day on social media. However, be mindful of the couple’s preferences for their wedding day. Some couples may request no social media posts until after the ceremony, while others may have specific hashtags they want guests to use for every picture they post. Respect these guidelines and avoid posting unflattering photos or videos that could embarrass not only the couple but the other guests as well. Perhaps send all of your pics to the couple and let them decide what to posy publicly. Tip: If you’re unsure about posting certain content, ask the couple for permission before sharing it online. This will ensure you respect their boundaries and avoid unnecessary conflict. 15. Show Gratitude Last but not least, remember to show gratitude for being a wedding guest. Thank the couple for inviting you to their special day, and express your appreciation. A simple thank you can go a long way in letting the bride and groom know that their efforts to create a beautiful wedding were recognized, enjoyed and appreciated. Tip: Consider sending a handwritten thank-you note after the wedding. This small gesture can leave a lasting positive impression. Conclusion: Being the Perfect Wedding Guest Attending a wedding is a privilege and an opportunity to share in the couple’s happiest day of their lives. By following these guidelines, you can avoid common guest mistakes and ensure that you contribute to the beautiful celebration in the best overall way possible. Remember, weddings are about love, joy, and community—your role as a wedding guest is to enhance that atmosphere, not detract from it. So, dress appropriately, be punctual, participate with enthusiasm, and most importantly, respect the couple’s wishes. With these tips in mind, you’ll undoubtedly be remembered as an ideal wedding guest, helping to make this wedding celebration's at Celestial Farms and every Michigan wedding venue as special and memorable as possible for everyone involved. - A Celestial Anniversary: Meteor Showers, Boutique Destination Weddings, and the Best Burgers in Michigan
Port Crescent State Park Anniversaries are a time to reflect on our journey, celebrate the love we’ve shared, the lives we’ve built together, and create new memories. This year, Kyle and I decided to honor our love and the venue, Celestial Farms Weddings and Events, that has been a central part of our lives for the last four years with a "celestial" themed anniversary trip. As the proud owners of Celestial Farms , it only seemed fitting to explore the wonders of the night sky while celebrating the stars in our lives—both literal and figurative. Our destination: Port Austin, a quaint Michigan town along Lake Huron known for its natural beauty and one of the state's few dark sky parks/ Port Crescent State Park. 85ten : A Boutique Escape 85ten Boutique Hotel We started our journey with a stay at 85ten , a charming and fun boutique hotel located in Port Austin that is a great place for a destination wedding. Stepping inside, it was as if we'd been transported back in time, though with all the modern comforts we could ask for. The hotel itself is a beautifully restored house from the 1800s, giving it an elegant yet cozy feel. What made it even more impressive was meeting the owner and learning she grew up in this home. Every corner told a story, with antique touches balanced by thoughtful updates and amazing design choices that had me craving a complete makeover of my home. The charm, the design and the character made our stay both luxurious and extremely comfortable. 85ten Boutique Hotel The intimate atmosphere of 85ten was perfect for a romantic getaway or a Michigan destination wedding. Our room had a unique blend of historic character and modern chic, offering just the right amount of nostalgia without sacrificing style or comfort. The bathroom was perfection. The tile work was absolutely gorgeous. The bed and bedding was so comfortable I had a hard time waking up! It was the kind of place where you could easily curl up with a good book or spend hours talking, or enjoying a cocktail with friends. It felt like a home away from home, and every detail was meticulously curated to give guests a true boutique experience. 85ten Boutique Hotel The old-world charm of the house, combined with the boutique amenities, made our stay feel like an extended escape from the world, which was exactly what we needed during the busiest time of our year. Our days started with the smell of fresh coffee brewing in the hotel's communal area, and we spent our mornings wandering the grounds, admiring the way the light played off the beautifully restored architecture, enjoying the lineup of hydrangeas that I recognized from the vase on my nightstand. It was a perfect prelude to our celestial adventure. 85ten offers weddings as well. In fact the owner's daughter had her ceremony in the front yard and reception in the back. And the hotel is just the right size for all of your bridal party and immediate family. Wedding's here are truly unique and one of a kind. 85ten Boutique Hotel Chasing Stars at Port Austin's Dark Sky Park One of the highlights of our short little anniversary getaway was spending a night under the stars at Port Austin's dark sky park. Kyle and I have always been fascinated by the night sky, and with a venue like Celestial Farms, the connection to the cosmos runs deep. This park was the perfect place to indulge that passion and watch the wonders of the universe unfold. The park, free from the light pollution that so often obscures the stars, provided a clear view of the meteor showers that had drawn us to Port Austin in the first place. We brought along blankets and found a cozy spot to settle in for the night. As the sun set, the sky began to transform, revealing countless stars that seemed to multiply with every passing minute. The "ooh's and ahh's" were coming from every direction. The experience was both humbling and exhilarating, a reminder of how vast the universe is and how lucky we are to be here in this tiny little corner we call our own. Caseville's Cheeseburger Festival: A Fun Culinary Detour While our trip was largely focused on the celestial, we couldn't resist making a detour to nearby Caseville for their annual Cheeseburger Festival. After all, no anniversary trip for Kyle and I is complete without indulging in some delicious food, and this festival promised a lineup of mouthwatering burgers that we couldn’t pass up. Our first stop was Beachy's Restaurant , where we tried the Blue Heaven Burger . I have to admit, this burger was an unexpected delight and quickly became my favorite. I was definitely stepping outside of my comfort zone with this burger. And I was blown away. The combination of blueberries with the savory burger created a flavor explosion that was both sweet and tangy. It was unlike anything I had tasted before, and I couldn’t help but marvel at the creativity that went into crafting such a unique dish. The blueberries added a refreshing twist to the traditional burger, and I found myself savoring every bite, letting the flavors linger just a little longer. If this isn't a regular on the menu, it should be. I'd make a special trip just for a dinner date for this burger, it was THAT good! Blue Heaven Burger- Beachy's Not to be outdone, Kyle had his eye on the Apple Jack Burger from Walt's Restaurant . This burger had already made waves at the festival, winning the 2024 burger contest, so we knew we had to try it. And let me tell you, it lived up to the hype. The combination of apples and melted pepper jack cheese, created a rich, autumnal flavor that was both comforting and delicious. It was the kind of burger that sticks with you, the perfect blend of sweet and savory, with a little extra something that sets it apart from the rest. Although it won first place, Beachy's Blue Heaven burger is number one in my book! We spent the afternoon wandering the festival, enjoying the festive atmosphere, and of course a freshly fried corn dog and a delicious freshly squeezed lemonade. The energy of the festival was contagious, with everyone in high spirits, celebrating not just the burgers but the community that makes Caseville so special. We really loved the live music at Beachy’s Bar. Especially when this young man performed for the crowd! By the time we left, we were full, happy, and already planning our next trip back. Reflecting on a Perfect Getaway As we packed up and prepared to head back to Celestial Farms , I couldn’t help but reflect on how perfect our anniversary trip had been. The combination of stunning natural beauty, boutique luxury, a trip to the beach and fun culinary adventures made for a truly memorable experience. It was a trip that celebrated not only our love for each other but also our love for the things that make life special—quiet moments under the stars, charming places with rich histories, and, of course, great food. Our celestial-themed anniversary was a fitting tribute to the journey Kyle and I have been on together. Just as the stars guide us through the night, our love continues to guide us through life’s ups and downs. We returned to Celestial Farms feeling refreshed, reconnected, and ready to take on whatever the future holds. Big Thanks to Didi Russell for the blogging inspiration! - 5 Essential Questions to Ask When Choosing Your Wedding Venue: A guide to finding your Detroit AREA Wedding Venue
At Celestial Farms we believe that when you're searching for your dream Detroit area wedding venue there are 5 essential questions you must ask. The wedding venue sets the tone for the entire event and impacts every aspect of your big day, from guest comfort to the preferred and partner vendors they use and even your budget. While it’s tempting to fall in love with a venue based on its aesthetic or location, it’s essential to dig deeper and ensure that it aligns with your vision, needs, wants, logistics, and budget. Angela's Angles Photogrpahy At Celestial Farms in Clio Michigan, we understand how overwhelming it can be to find a wedding venue that feels like a perfect fit for you. We've helped many brides and grooms navigate this important decision. Based on our experience, here are five essential questions to ask when choosing your dream Detroit area wedding venue. 1. What Is Included in the Venue’s Pricing Package? One of the first things couples often look at when touring a wedding venue is the price. But the price tag alone doesn’t always give you the full picture. You need to know what’s included in the cost to determine if the venue fits your budget and to determine if there are services you need to add or eliminate. For example, we are exclusive with CHEERS TO YOU BARTENDING which not only makes drink menu planning a breeze but we can also guarantee excellent bar service for our clients and their wedding guests. And EVERY wedding here includes day of coordination-a priceless and crucial service that makes every event flow seamlessly. Are there strict time limits or are you allowed to start hair/makeup and decorating as early as you'd like? Casey with Cheers To You Bartending and Charcuterie Some venues offer all-inclusive packages that cover almost everything- from DJ and photography services and even catering. Other venues, like Celestial Farms, work with a curated list of preferred vendors for services such as videography, photography, DJ services, catering, cake and more. While we don’t offer fully exclusive packages, we make sure our preferred vendors, like Angela’s Angles Photography , Cheers to You Bartending , Mission BBQ and Sugar High Bakery , know our venue inside out and offer competitive, exclusive packages for our couples. This gives you the flexibility to build your dream wedding with trusted professionals, without worrying about getting stuck with a vendor you aren't happy with. Before booking a venue, ask: • Are tables, chairs, and linens included in the package? • Is there an additional fee for setup and teardown? • What amenities come with the rental (heating, air conditioning, restrooms)? • Are there additional charges for bringing your own vendors? • What’s the cancellation policy? 2. How Many Guests Can the Venue Accommodate Comfortably? Angela's Angles Photography While it’s easy to fall in love with a venue’s look, you also need to think about its capacity and layout for your wedding size. A wedding venue might be visually stunning but impractical if it can’t comfortably fit your guest count. When looking at capacity, ask yourself what kind of wedding experience you would like to have. Do you envision an intimate ceremony with close friends and family, or are you planning a larger and more grand celebration? Keep in mind that venue capacity can affect other decisions, like catering, parking, and restroom availability. It’s not just about whether everyone fits, but whether everyone has enough room to enjoy themselves. At Celestial Farms , we’re proud to offer flexible spaces that can accommodate both intimate ceremonies and larger weddings. We recommend asking your venue: • What is the maximum guest capacity? • Is there a separate space for the ceremony and reception, or will the venue need to be flipped? • Can the venue accommodate your specific setup, such as long banquet tables or a dance floor? • Are there options for indoor and outdoor spaces? • What is the plan for inclement weather, especially if you’re having an outdoor ceremony? Pavilion Ceremony, Angela's Angles Photography 3. What Is the Venue’s Availability and Scheduling Flexibility? Venue availability is one of the biggest determining factors when selecting your ideal wedding date. Popular venues tend to book out months (sometimes years) in advance, especially for prime wedding seasons. If you have your heart set on a specific date, you’ll need to check to see if the venue is available. However, if your wedding date is flexible you have more options to work with. Many venues offer off-season rates or discounts for weddings booked on weekdays or Sundays. At Celestial Farms, we collaborate with our vendors, like Angela’s Angles Photography and Cheers to You Bartending, to provide discounted rates for winter weddings or midweek events, giving couples more options to fit their budget without compromising on quality. When discussing availability, ask: • What dates are available in my desired time frame? • Are there any discounts for weekday or off-season weddings? • How much time is allotted for the setup, the event, and teardown? • Is there flexibility if my event runs longer than expected? 4. What Is the Venue’s Policy on Vendors and Décor? Your wedding is a personal expression of your style and your story, and most couples want to add unique touches to make the wedding venue feel like it reflects their personalities. However, some venues have strict rules regarding what kind of décor is allowed, or even how you can set up the space. At Celestial Farms , we always encourage couples to customize the venue to match their vision, while also working within guidelines to preserve the space and ensure safety. We provide a preferred vendor list, which includes talented professionals that we trust. These vendors are familiar with our venue’s setup and policies, and we keep a great line of communication with them which helps streamline your wedding day. However, we’re open to working with your favorite outside vendors, provided they meet our standards and comply with our venue's policies. For décor, we’re known for our beautiful, modern barn setting that provides a rustic yet elegant backdrop and requires very little decorating. And while many of our couples choose a very minimalist decor approach due to the natural beauty of the facilities, we still encourage personalization. Whether it’s hanging and installing custom LED's or custom floral installations, we’re happy to help you transform the space while respecting its integrity. Angela's Angles Photography When choosing your venue, be sure to ask: • Can I use my own vendors, or do I have to use the venue’s preferred vendors? • Are there any restrictions on décor, such as candles, string lights, or hanging installations? • What is the venue’s policy on cleanup? Will they take care of it, or is that the responsibility of the couple? • Does the venue have partnerships with vendors that offer discounts or special packages? 5. What Support Does the Venue Offer on the Wedding Day? The day of your wedding will be extremely stressful if you don’t have the right support system in place. Some venues offer an on-site coordinator or day-of staff to help manage the flow of the event, while others leave you to handle all logistics on your own. At Celestial Farms, we pride ourselves on our service and offer comprehensive support to ensure your day runs as smoothly as possible. Our team, including Angie from Angela’s Angles Photography, Casey from Cheers to You Bartending, and dedicated staff like Yolanda and Ansleigh, are here to help with everything from setting up for the ceremony to managing sparkler send-offs. We also work closely with your vendors to ensure seamless coordination. This allows you to focus on enjoying your special day while we handle all of the logistics. When choosing a venue, ask: • Does the venue provide a day-of coordinator or event manager? • Are there staff members available to assist with setup, teardown, or general troubleshooting during the event? • What role does the venue play in coordinating with vendors on the wedding day? • Are there any additional fees for staffing or coordination services? Conclusion: Making the Right Choice Emily Ann Photography Choosing the right location and venue for your wedding is a deeply personal decision, but it’s also a practical one. By asking the right questions, you can ensure that your dream wedding venue aligns with your budget, style, and vision. At Celestial Farms, we strive to bring every vision to life. We strive to make every couple’s wedding day as magical and stress-free as possible, from offering trusted vendors to providing a beautiful setting that’s both elegant and versatile which your guests will love. - Capturing Candid Content at Celestial Farms Wedding Venue
Candid moment captured by Yolanda with Celestial Farms Our Celestial Farms staff is constantly capturing candid content at every event here at Celestial Farms Wedding Venue, and it's a priceless contribution to your Detroit area Wedding. Weddings are made of moments—some planned, sometimes many others unexpected, but all deeply cherished for a lifetime. From the first glance exchanged between a bride and groom to the quiet, unscripted laughter among friends and family, it’s often the little things that create the most enduring memories. At Celestial Farms, we understand how important these fleeting moments are, and that’s why we’ve made it a priority to go beyond the traditional services you might expect from a wedding venue. As a modern barn venue that prides itself on personalization and attention to detail, Celestial Farms offers many truly unique experiences including candid content captured by our staff. These aren’t the posed photos typically captured by your hired photographer or the orchestrated moments filmed by the videographer. These are the unguarded, real moments that happen in the background of every wedding—the moments that make the day genuinely yours. Our dedicated team, including familiar faces like Angie, Casey, Yolanda, and Ansleigh, plays a pivotal role in this candid content process. Our team members have become experts at blending into the background while also capturing the beauty of the day in the most authentic way possible. In this blog, we’ll explore why candid content is invaluable, how our staff goes about capturing it, and why it adds an extra layer of personalization to your wedding at Celestial Farms Wedding Venue. The Importance of Candid Moments Weddings are often seen as a series of carefully orchestrated events: the ceremony, the first dance, the cake cutting. However, the real magic often happens in the in-between. The joyful tear that escapes a father’s eye as he watches his daughter walk down the aisle, the spontaneous dance-off between cousins during the reception, or the stolen glance between newlyweds during the quiet moments between festivities—these are the moments that live on in memory long after the day has passed. Professional photographers and videographers do a fantastic job of capturing the big moments. They are the experts when it comes to composing shots, setting up lighting, and framing the perfect first kiss. But even the best professionals can’t be everywhere at once, or capture the behind the scenes moments that don't make it to the photographers and videographers final edit and that’s where our team steps in. "Candids and behind-the-scenes shots are the best content because people don't realize what it takes to go into a photo, a ceremony, a venue, or just the everyday life of a business owner. Period." Angie: Angela's Angles Photography At Celestial Farms, we believe that these spontaneous moments deserve to be preserved too. Our staff takes it upon themselves to capture behind-the-scenes glimpses that may otherwise go unnoticed. It’s the ultimate wedding day bonus—a treasure trove of candid, unscripted content that gives you a fuller picture of your special day. How Our Staff Captures Candid Content While photographers and videographers are typically focused on key moments, our team is trained to notice the subtler happenings. Each member of our staff has a natural eye for emotion and beauty, but they’re also familiar enough with the venue and wedding flow to anticipate when and where these candid moments will occur. Take Angie, for instance. As the owner of Angela’s Angles Photography , she has a deep understanding of what makes for a memorable photo. When she steps in as a staff member during weddings, she uses her photographer’s eye to notice small, intimate moments that others might miss. Whether it’s a nervous bride smoothing her dress just before the walk down the aisle or a couple sharing a quiet laugh during a sunset stroll, Angie captures these moments with a quiet grace that makes them feel completely natural. Then there’s Casey, who’s usually busy ensuring that the bar service runs smoothly as part of ‘ Cheers to You Bartending and Charcuterie. ’ But Casey has a special way of connecting with guests, which often results in her capturing spontaneous, joy-filled moments behind the bar or during the reception. You’ll find photos or videos of friends clinking glasses, bridesmaids sharing inside jokes, or a newlywed couple stealing a sip of champagne between dances. These snapshots are the heart and soul of your celebration—the moments you’ll look back on and laugh, cry, and smile over. Candid moment captured by Angie with Angela's Angles Photogrpahy Even Yolanda and Ansleigh, who work behind the scenes at Celestial Farms , aren’t just handling logistics—they’re part of the experience too. They’ve become experts at documenting fun, candid moments like guests arriving in awe of the venue’s beauty or groups of friends taking impromptu photos by the barn’s rustic doors. Yolanda’s calm demeanor and Ansleigh’s vibrant energy allow them to connect with guests in a way that makes everyone feel at ease, often leading to unplanned, beautiful content. "I like to watch what the photographer is focusing on, and while they're capturing that, I look around from a different angle to see what else is happening that's picture-worthy at the same time!" Yolanda: Celestial Farms Team Member The Priceless Nature of Candid Content When couples receive their professional photos and videos, they usually find themselves reliving the key events of the day: the vows, the cake cutting, the first dance. These are the moments they’ll expect to see and cherish, but candid content offers something different. It brings back the unexpected, the funny, the heartwarming—things you didn’t even realize were happening at the time. For instance, while your professional photographer might be focusing on your walk down the aisle, our staff might capture the flower girl in the corner of the frame, peeking curiously at her petals. While your videographer is recording your first dance, we might snap a picture of your parents holding hands, watching you with pride in their eyes. These moments are invaluable because they fill in the gaps of your memory. You get to experience your wedding day from multiple perspectives: through the eyes of your guests, your family, your wedding party, and your own. Each candid shot is like a puzzle piece that, when combined with the professional photos and videos, creates a fuller, more vivid picture of your day. The Personalized Experience at Celestial Farms We pride ourselves on making every wedding at Celestial Farms as personal and unique as possible. From our exclusive partnerships with vendors like Angie’s Angela’s Angles Photography and Casey’s ‘Cheers to You Bartending and Charcuterie’ to the care we put into each event, our goal is to make your day feel entirely yours. Candid content is another way we achieve this personalization. Candid moments by Angie with Angela's Angles Photography Unlike the standard posed shots you might expect, candid photos and videos reflect the authentic you—the you that laughs uncontrollably at your best friend’s speech, the you that sneaks a moment of quiet reflection before the ceremony, the you that dances barefoot under the stars with your new spouse. These are the moments that matter, and they’re what makes your wedding truly unique to you. Because our staff knows Celestial Farms inside and out, they’re able to capture these moments in a way that feels natural. They know where the light hits just right during golden hour, where guests tend to congregate during cocktail hour, and where to be to catch those sweet, hidden moments between couples. And because our team is part of the day rather than an outside vendor, they’re able to capture these moments without interrupting the flow of your celebration. Adding Value with Candid Videos While photography is a major part of what we offer, we’re also increasingly incorporating candid videos into our service. Thanks to the rise of social media and short-form video content, these clips have become a fun, informal way for couples to relive moments from their wedding day. Our staff often captures short video clips of candid moments on their phones or cameras. These clips could be anything from guests cheering during the sparkler send-off to a slow-motion video of the couple twirling in the moonlight. These raw, unedited videos are perfect for sharing on social media or simply keeping as a personal memento. As the day of coordinator, I have the best possible positions to capture once in a lifetime candid content. From the brides first step out of the suite as the photographer and videographer are waiting ahead, to the short video clips I capture of the groom as he makes his way to the alter. I love it so much that if I could wear a body cam without looking ridiculous I absolutely would! Jen: Owner of Celestial Farms Imagine having a behind-the-scenes video of you getting ready with your bridesmaids, where Angie’s laughter fills the room as she catches a quiet moment between you and your maid of honor. Or a quick shot of Casey cheering with your guests as she hands out celebratory drinks during the toasts. These short clips bring the day to life in a way that still photos alone can’t, and they add another layer of personalization to your experience at Celestial Farms. Conclusion: A Wedding Experience Like No Other At Celestial Farms , we know that your wedding is about more than just the big moments. It’s about the in-between moments—the unexpected, unplanned instances that often turn out to be the most cherished memories of all. That’s why our staff goes above and beyond to capture candid content throughout the day, giving you a priceless resource that adds depth and personalization to your wedding memories. Candid moment captured by Angie with Angela's Angles Photography Whether it’s a quiet smile, a stolen glance, or a spontaneous dance, our Celestial Farms team is there to document every special moment for our Detroit area couples. We consider it a privilege to be part of your day and to offer this unique service that enhances the traditional wedding experience. After all, when you choose Celestial Farms, you’re not just getting a beautiful venue—you’re getting a team of passionate people who care about making your day truly unforgettable. In the end, it’s these candid moments that will make you smile years down the line, reminding you of the real, raw, and beautifully human parts of your Celestial Farms wedding. That’s the magic we capture at Celestial Farms- a Detroit area wedding venue, and we can’t wait to help make your day as special as it deserves to be. - Sweet Alternatives: Desserts we're Seeing More of at Wedding Venues in Michigan
When planning a wedding, couples often spend a lot of time deciding on the perfect wedding cake design and flavor—only to find that much of it goes uneaten. At Celestial Farms , one of the top wedding venues in Michigan, we’ve seen firsthand how much cake gets wasted at the end of the night at weddings. There's no doubt they're beautiful, but they can also be difficult to cut and serve (especially if your baker isn’t on standby), messy, and many times left untouched—especially when guests are drinking alcohol and are busy dancing the night away. Angela's Angles Photography If you’re looking for ways to cut down on waste, simplify dessert service, and even save money on your overall budget, consider these alternative wedding desserts that your guests will love. ⸻ 1. The Perfect Balance: A Small Cutting Cake + Pre-Packaged Cookies One of our favorite solutions at Celestial Farms for couples who still want the tradition of cutting a cake for pictures but don’t want the hassle of serving 150 pieces is a small, personal and beautiful cake just for the Bride and Groom. This allows you to have that picture-perfect moment without worrying about cutting and distributing a ton of cake to all your guests. One of our favorite alternatives to consider is individually wrapped cookies. This is such an easy, mess-free alternative. Cookies can be pre-packaged in clear decorative wrap or small treat bags so guests can enjoy them at the reception or take them home to enjoy later. They make a great late-night snack, take home dessert, and they can double as wedding favors! If you’re looking to splurge on a high-quality bakery, consider Sugar High Bakery (a local favorite and winner of Cupcake Wars) or Alyssa's Cakes (a preferred vendor and one of our favorites at Celestial Farms ). They both make desserts that wedding guests absolutely love. Our April 12th couple Ashley and Cory have chosen brownies and cookies from Sugar High Bakery instead of a traditional wedding cake, and we know their guests will be thrilled! But don’t feel like you have to go all out—even cookies from Sam’s Club or Walmart are a fantastic and affordable option that can still be delicious and aesthetically pleasing. People love cookies, and at the end of the night, guests care more about a yummy easy to grab treat than a fancy piece of cake that requires a plate and fork. ⸻ 2. Mini Cheesecakes: A Crowd-Pleasing Favorite If you want a dessert that feels indulgent but is very easy to serve, mini cheesecakes are a perfect choice at Michigan wedding venues. They come in a variety of flavors—classic New York, strawberry swirl, chocolate, caramel, and more—allowing your guests to pick their favorite flavors in bite size/finger food form! Mini cheesecakes can be displayed beautifully on trays or tiered stands, or individually packaged in small clear containers for a fun grab-and-go option. Unlike a traditional cheesecake that needs to be cut and plated, these cute alternatives are pre-portioned and easy to serve, making them an ideal choice for weddings and many of our couples at Celestial Farms Wedding Venue in Clio, Michigan. ⸻ 3. A Candy Table for a Nostalgic, Fun Twist For a fun and interactive dessert option, consider a candy table at your wedding. Fill glass jars or decorative bowls with an assortment of your favorite sweets, allowing guests to scoop up their faves into easy to take home treat bags. Some great ideas for a wedding candy table include: • Chocolates wrapped in your wedding colors • Gummy bears or sour candies • M&Ms- also available in custom colors • Big name wrapped chocolates (like Hershey’s Kisses or Lindor truffles) • Custom-labeled candy bars with your wedding date or monogram A candy table satisfies your guests’ sweet cravings, acts as a decor element that can be themed to match your wedding colors or style, and is a fun interactive activity for everyone. ⸻ 4. Elegant Macarons in Your Wedding Colors For a bit more of a sophisticated dessert option, French macarons are a stunning and delicious alternative to traditional wedding cake. These delicate, meringue-based cookies come in a variety of flavors and colors and can be custom-colored to perfectly match your wedding theme. Macarons are also naturally gluten-free, making them a safe choice for guests that may have dietary restrictions. Whether you serve them in classic flavors like vanilla, strawberry or raspberry, and pistachio or unique ones like champagne or salted caramel, they’ll add a touch of elegance to any dessert spread at your favorite Michigan wedding venue. ⸻ 5. Brownies: The Ultimate Crowd-Pleaser Brownies are another fantastic alternative to traditional wedding cake because they’re rich, chocolatey, easy to eat and a favorite for many people. Like cookies, they can be conveniently pre-packaged for a take-home option or displayed beautifully on tiered trays and stands. Our April 12th couple at Celestial Farms a Michigan wedding venue, is serving brownies and cookies from Sugar High Bakery , and we can't wait! Guests love classic, homemade-style desserts, and brownies never go to waste unlike cake and cupcakes so often do. Whether you serve them plain, with nuts, or with toppings like caramel or ganache, they’re guaranteed to be a hit! ⸻ 6. Authentic Desserts & Cultural Sweets One of the most memorable wedding dessert table setups we’ve seen at Celestial Farms featured authentic Italian desserts, which added a personal and meaningful touch to the couple and their families. If you have a strong connection to your heritage, serving traditional and authentic desserts from your background is a fun and meaningful way to share your culture with your guests. For an Italian dessert spread, consider: • Cannoli – Crispy pastry shells filled with sweet ricotta cream • Tiramisu – Layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone cream • Pizzelle – Delicate, crispy Italian waffle cookies • Sfogliatelle – Flaky pastries filled with ricotta and citrus zest • Amaretti Cookies – Chewy almond-flavored cookies Other cultural dessert ideas could include: • Baklava (Greek or Middle Eastern weddings) • Mochi or Taiyaki (Japanese weddings) • Churros or Tres Leches Cake (Mexican weddings) • Kolaczki (Polish weddings) Not only do these authentic desserts bring a personal touch to your wedding day, but they also create a unique and memorable experience for your guests, giving them something special and maybe something they've never tried before. It's fun, delicious and different from the traditional wedding cake and wedding venues near me are seeing more and more couples serve authentic desserts. ⸻ 7. Pre-Packaged Dessert Favors: Sweet & Practical Another fun and practical idea is to give your guests pre-packaged desserts as wedding favors. Instead of spending money on customized trinkets that guests often leave behind, why not send them home with a sweet treat they’ll actually enjoy? Some great pre-packaged wedding dessert favors to consider include: • Mini jars of honey or jam • Small boxes of chocolate truffles • Individually wrapped rice krispie treats • Personalized bags of popcorn Not only are these options delicious, but they also eliminate waste—something we see a lot at wedding venues in Michigan. Guests can take them home and enjoy them later instead of leaving uneaten slices of cake or cupcakes behind. ⸻ Why Alternative Desserts Make Sense for Your Wedding If you’re getting married at Celestial Farms Wedding Venue in Clio, Michigan—or any of the stunning wedding venues in Michigan—choosing an alternative dessert can save you time, money, and sometimes stress. A large amount of wedding cake can be expensive, messy, and often impractical. Guests who are drinking delicious cocktails made by Cheers to You Bartending or dancing the night away rarely stop to eat cake. By offering pre-portioned, grab-and-go, or pre-packaged desserts at your wedding, you make things easier for yourself, your guests, and your team. Whether it’s cookies, brownies, mini cheesecakes, macarons, or a beautifully curated authentic dessert table, there are so many fun and creative ways to give your guests a sweet ending to the night—without the hassle of a traditional cake and of course without waste.
